CREATING SPACES,

PRACTICES AND PROCESSES TOWARDS

A SELF-DETERMINED FUTURE.

Ancestral Dissertations

ANCESTRAL DISSERTATIONS is our current artistic programme that will look at African ancestral and cultural knowledge systems with the aim of centering the voices of creatives of colour, and engaging diaspora communities.

The aim is to explore how people within the African Diaspora community cater to place-making and self-preservation through ancestral knowledge, oral traditions, cultural artistic practices, experiences, and cultural relationships. By creating spaces, decolonial practices, and processes as a form of reclaiming language, and how we can speak further to issues of mental wellbeing and social connection.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body.

Future Reset

The Future Reset project: Diasporic Dreaming is a community-led initiative that seeks to support young people from African Diaspora communities through contemporary art outcomes.

This project is built on the belief that the arts have the power to inspire, connect, and empower people. It seeks to create a safe space for creative experimentation, artistic presentation, and community building for young people through multi-disciplinary and cultural practises

This first phase of the project echoes the codesign findings that reflect on the yearning for utopic dreaming of worlds that centres ancestral play, healing and black joy through art, and community connection.

This project was delivered in partnership with Footscray Community Arts funded by VicHealth through the Future Healthy: Future Reset program.
